In More Detail

We understand that life sometimes catches us by surprise. That’s why we have an emergency prescription service that’s fast, reliable and accessible to all. If you find yourself in a situation where you’re re in need of a prescription but time isn’t on your side then our emergency prescription service at Prema could be the perfect solution.

Whether you’re visiting the UK, have lost your medication, in pain and can’t get to your GP or simply away from home then speak to us today and our friendly team will be delighted to help.We will provide patients with a face to face on the same day consultation with the GP to get a brief idea to why the prescription is required. The GP will ask for evidence that you been prescribed recently for the medication you are requesting, perhaps a copy of the repeat prescription. If there is not a copy of the repeat prescription available, then it will be down to the discretion of the GP to issue, depending on the condition treated and/or the medication requested.

We will not provide prescriptions for controlled medications where patients are having weekly/regular repeat prescriptions from the pharmacy. We will also cover non-NHS patients and holiday patients, as long as they can provide evidence of having taken the medications before.

There may be on the odd occasion, further investigations needing to be done before issuing the medications, such as patients who have anaemia requiring more supplements. This will be covered during the GP consultation. The face to face consultation is essential to ensure that you need the medications right away, and that the dosages are correct.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. If I cannot provide a repeat prescription, can I still get my medications?

This will be down to the discretion of the GP at the time of the consultation. It is much more desirable to have the repeat prescription to hand to avoid any conflict or misunderstanding.

2. Can I just get a prescription without seeing a GP?

No. All our GPs are governed by the GMC and in order for the GP to provide a prescription, we need to see you face to face to ensure best practice. Secondly, all prescribing is done according to NICE guidelines and the BNF.

3. Where can I take the prescription to?

Any local pharmacy that is open

4. How many tablets can I get?

This will be down to the condition treated.

5. Will I have to pay a further charge for the medication?

Yes, the chemist will charge a fee for a private prescription

Conditions Treated

The emergency prescription service will cover all conditions except in the case of patients on long term controlled medications which are prescribed on a regularly basis, such as weekly prescriptions.

We also help patients who are visiting the country and have left their regular medications at home. For the female patient, there is the occasional need to delay a period for travel or other matters to which we can provide a prescription for or the need for emergency contraception.
