When we’re getting ready for a trip, there’s so much to remember – passports, tickets, check-in times, parking, and travel insurance. But it’s also important to keep in mind that some countries have a higher risk of infectious diseases. Don’t worry, though! Taking a few simple precautions can really help. Things like using mosquito repellent, drinking bottled water, and washing your hands often can make a big difference. And getting travel vaccinations can offer even more protection.
In fact, some countries require proof of certain vaccinations before you can enter or leave. For example, the yellow fever vaccine needs to be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).
To make sure you’re all set, we recommend talking to us at least 10 weeks before your trip. Some vaccines need time to work, and others may require several doses over weeks or even months, like the Hepatitis B vaccine. We’ll need to know if you’re heading to a high-risk area and what your plans are. For instance, if you’re volunteering with animals, you might need to be aware of rabies risks.
During our consultation, we’ll also check if you have any conditions that might affect your vaccinations, especially if you’re on treatments that impact your immune system.
And while we’re at it, we’ll make sure you’re up to date on your non-travel vaccinations too, like chickenpox, flu, COVID, and tetanus.
Feel free to reach out – we’re here to help you travel safely and with peace of mind!
