Travel Vaccinations

Vaccinations Prema Health

About this treatment

We offer a comprehensive range of travel vaccinations and routine vaccinations.

Travel vaccinations are essential to protect you from diseases that may be uncommon or non-existent in your home country but prevalent in other regions. When traveling internationally, you may be exposed to illnesses that your body has not built immunity against.

Vaccinations help prevent the spread of infectious diseases and safeguard your health during your travels. They are particularly crucial for destinations with higher risks of diseases like yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis, and malaria.

Ensuring you are vaccinated can prevent serious health issues and contribute to global public health efforts by reducing the transmission of diseases across borders.

In More Detail

When we’re getting ready for a trip, there’s so much to remember – passports, tickets, check-in times, parking, and travel insurance. But it’s also important to keep in mind that some countries have a higher risk of infectious diseases. Don’t worry, though! Taking a few simple precautions can really help. Things like using mosquito repellent, drinking bottled water, and washing your hands often can make a big difference. And getting travel vaccinations can offer even more protection.

In fact, some countries require proof of certain vaccinations before you can enter or leave. For example, the yellow fever vaccine needs to be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).

To make sure you’re all set, we recommend talking to us at least 10 weeks before your trip. Some vaccines need time to work, and others may require several doses over weeks or even months, like the Hepatitis B vaccine. We’ll need to know if you’re heading to a high-risk area and what your plans are. For instance, if you’re volunteering with animals, you might need to be aware of rabies risks.
During our consultation, we’ll also check if you have any conditions that might affect your vaccinations, especially if you’re on treatments that impact your immune system.

And while we’re at it, we’ll make sure you’re up to date on your non-travel vaccinations too, like chickenpox, flu, COVID, and tetanus.

Feel free to reach out – we’re here to help you travel safely and with peace of mind!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How are in advance should I be looking at getting my travel vaccinations done?

We advised at least 10 weeks in advance.

2. Will I be getting my vaccinations at the time of the consultation?

Yes, as long as we have the vaccinations in stock. However, if we don’t, we will cover what is needed during the consultation and we will bring you back to have them done.

3. What reactions am I expecting after having the vaccinations?

As with all vaccinations, look out for sudden swelling of the lip and hands.

This can be associated with shortness of breath or a wheeze. If this happens, call 999 as you may have developed an allergic reaction. Otherwise, it is natural to have a small pea-sized swelling to the injection site along with a minor degree of pain and heaviness to the arm. Some people experience a mild fever with headache and malaise afterwards.

These symptoms settle within 48 hours. If at all worried, please do call our clinic to discuss further[

4. What happens if my timings are too short for the holiday?

You can still have the travel vaccinations, but they may not be as effective

5. Can I have the vaccinations if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Expectant mothers are allowed to have inactivated vaccines but live vaccines such as yellow fever, are not recommended.

Breastfeeding is safe for inactivated vaccines and with live vaccines, yellow fever and smallpox are contra-indicated. If the travel cannot be avoided and is an absolute necessity for the breastfeeding women to enter a Yellow Fever endemic area, then it is recommended that the yellow fever vaccine be given.
